For the first several years of my career following college, I worked behind the desk and in management of a luxury hotel. As anyone that's worked in a hotel can tell you, they are a breeding ground for a lifetime's worth of stories. While I'm sure some of mine could easily go viral and be a gold mine for traffic to this site, most of these stories will go with me to the grave.
Instead of tossing around celebrity gossip, I've decided to put my experience to good use, by sharing the ins-and-outs of how a hotel operates, and in turn, help you to have a better experience when you check-in. I'm calling this monthly series Hotel Confidential...
Here's what we've talked about so far...
Tipping - Ever wonder how much is customary for tipping various staff in a hotel? Here's a few guidelines to help you decide.
Being "Walked" - We all know airlines overbook on a daily basis, but did you know hotels are just as guilty of this practice? Find out what happens when you're "walked" and how to avoid it.
How to Score an Upgrade - Tips on how to increase - and decrease - your chances of landing the coveted hotel upgrade.
Stay tuned each month for a new installment in Hotel Confidential. And if you have an idea for a topic you'd like to see covered, please feel free to share it in the comments below!
