Today I'd like to take a time out from scheduled programming to highlight a cause which I'm proud to participate...Passports with Purpose. This is a fundraiser hosted every year by many of my friends in the travel blogging community, and this year's goal is the most ambitious to date.
Passports with Purpose was started in 2008, and in that inaugural year raised nearly $8,000 for Heifer International. The next year the group set out to build a school in Cambodia, raising nearly $30,000 in the process. And just last year, the overwhelming support of the travel blogging community helped raise $64,000 to build a village in India, which is presently under construction. This year's goal is a whopping $80,000, and the funds will go to building two libraries in Zambia, through a partnership with Room to Read.
The Hook
The community has received dozens of donations for prizes, and those that contribute are entered in a drawing to win some really awesome swag. Those who donate are also able to select which prize they'd like to go after, and the list of possibilities is really impressive. From a Kindle Fire and XBOX, to free nights at some of the worlds finest hotels, as well as several full tours of destinations like Costa Rica. There's even a free stay at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek, for all you Disney fans out there.
The best part....one doesn't have to contribute hundreds of dollars to be entered for the good stuff. Each item only requires a $10 donation, and you can contribute to as many or few items as you like. I won't share where my funds found a home, but let's just say there are a several of seasons involved....
So if you've got an extra $10 lying around, why not pay a visit to Passports with Purpose and take a look at their donation page. You just might get lucky, and help a great cause along the way.
